Classic Yacht Race

2008 Competition Details

Saturday, August 2, 2008 will see the running of the 14th Annual Classic Yacht Race for the larger boats.

The race is open to a wide variety of boat designs and sizes with a diverse representation of sailing rigs. All boats are welcome with special prizes for boats of traditional classic design. Cruising boats are particularly welcome. This is a fun race, the object being to create a spectacle of sailing vessels on Mahone Bay and to allow crews to be a part of the Festival.

Boats with gaff-rigged mains, bermuda, cat - almost any type of sailing rig can be expected at the starting line. The start/finish line is in the outer harbour of Mahone Bay and the course takes the boats on a sail through the nearby islands, returning to the finish line near the entrance to the town.

The race is scheduled for 1300h, with the skipper's meeting to be held before lunch on the Festival wharf.
