Competing in the Classic Yacht Race
All boats, 22 feet on deck or longer, are welcome to compete in the race. The race start is at 1300h on Saturday, August 1, 2009. The start/finish line will be marked and located just east of the mooring field, seaward of Inchcape Rock. The race will be between 9 - 12 nautical miles among the nearby islands of Mahone Bay.
To register, simply show up at the skipper's meeting on the Festival wharf at 1100h, or fill out an entry form, available at the Festival office at the wharf prior to race day.
Awards will be presented at the main stage Saturday evening. Winning yachts will be presented a trophy to keep for a year and all participants receive a memento of the occasion. Because of the diversity in design of the boats that typically participate, a Classic Boat Festival handicap system has been devised based on the performance of various vessel types over the years at the Boat Festival. It provides an "equalizer" for the various boat rigs and sizes. The handicap requires that the total race time for the boat be adjusted by a factor related to the rig type and load water line length (LWL).
- Any yacht 22 feet or longer on deck is eligible to enter.
- Boats must be equipped with appropriate safety equipment, as per Canadian Coast Guard regulations.
- Skippers must attend the skipper's meeting scheduled for 1100h on Saturday, August 1, 2009 in the dining tent on the Festival grounds.
